Getting started

Welcome to Smart Stream! This project features a Twitch extension and a desktop app, designed to enhance your streaming experience by providing the next level of interactivity. To help you get everything set up, we've divided the process into four easy-to-follow parts. Let's get started!

Part 1: Set Up Twitch Extension

Step 1: Find the Extension

Click on the button below to directly access the Smart Stream extension. If it doesn't appear immediately, head to "Extensions" in your Creator Dashboard and type "Smart Stream" into the search bar.

Step 2: Install It

Once you've found the extension, click the "Install" button at the top right corner of the page to add it to your account.

Step 3: Activate and Set It Up

After installation, click the "Activate" button at the bottom right corner, which will open a dropdown menu. From there, select whether you want the extension to be a "Panel" or a "Component".
Note: The "Overlay" option will be available soon.

Well done! You've completed Part 1, and the Smart Stream extension is now set up on your Twitch account. When you're ready, let's proceed to Part 2.

Part 2: Set Up Smart Stream App

Step 1: Download the App

Click on the “Smart Stream App” button below to download our desktop application.

Step 2: Install the App

Once downloaded, open the file and follow the installation steps. It's as simple as following breadcrumbs!

Step 3: Log In with Twitch

Open the Smart Stream desktop app and click on “Login with Twitch”. If this is your first login, it will guide you to the Twitch authentication page in your browser. If you've logged in before, you'll get logged in directly, and you can skip Steps 4 and 5.

Step 4: Authenticate

If you're on the Twitch authentication page, make sure to read through the provided info then give “Authenticate” a click. This step confirms the connection between the app and Twitch.

Step 5: Return to the App

After authenticating, an alert box will pop up with the option to "Open Electron." Click on it, and you'll be redirected back to the Smart Stream desktop app. You'll find yourself logged in and ready to continue.

Part 3: Equip Yourself with Devices

It's time to get your devices set up! Smart Stream works with five types of devices from different brands, all with their own unique modes that you can select based on your streaming needs. Review the device options below, purchase your favorites from the provided store links, and get ready for an enhanced streaming experience with smart devices.

Once you've acquired the devices, simply follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to set them up through their official platform. Please handle the devices cautiously and adhere to the provider's guidelines. Smart Stream doesn't bear any responsibility regarding the devices, as we only offer the control service through the Twitch platform.

Don't Have a Device Yet? No Worries!

If you're still waiting to pick up a device, or if you just don't have one yet, no problem! You can skip ahead to Part 4, where we break down the process of setting up Scenes via OBS (Open Broadcast Software).

Part 4: Set Up Your First Device

Step 1: Set Up OBS WebSocket

Ensure you're running OBS Studio version 28.0.0 or newer.
Launch OBS, head to “Tools” and select “WebSocket Server Settings”.
Make sure that “Enable WebSocket Server” is checked.
Click on “Show Connect Info”. Save this information as you'll need the IP, Port, and Password shortly.

Step 2: Connect Smart Stream to OBS:

Open the Smart Stream desktop app and click on your avatar in the top-right corner.
Go to “Connections” and select “OBS”.
Enter the WebSocket Connect Info from the first step (IP, Port, and Password).
Hit the green “Connect” button. A successful connection will be indicated in OBS under “WebSocket Server Settings” in the “Connected WebSocket Sessions” section.

Step 3: Add Your Device:

Close the previous window and click on “Add Device” in the top-left corner of the Smart Stream app.
Choose “OBS” as the device source and select “Scenes” for the device.
Feel free to explore and customize the available options. Once done, click “Save” in the bottom-right corner.

With your initial device now visible in both the desktop app and the extension, you've successfully integrated Smart Stream into your system. This is just the beginning of a richer, more interactive streaming experience. Dive in, explore, and elevate your streams!
